Back Pain: Uh oh!
Back pain is what many of us think as the telltale sign that you’re getting old. Struggling to bend down, even harder to get back up and a whole load of noises during the process! Typically the Massage Remedies clients are trauma cases. That is, they incur an injury at the gym, in the garden, lifting or bending. There are some chronic cases that have suffered back pain intermittently for months or even years e.g. slipped disc, sciatica or whiplash and may have been trauma cases but have become chronic over time.
Should you suffer a bout of back pain try to remain as active as possible and continue as much of the daily routine. Take some over the counter painkillers, use a hot or cold compression pack for up to 2 minutes and try to be positive, this attitude is better for quicker recovery.
As a sports and remedial therapist when working with the client we concentrate on mobility, stability and then strengthening, there would be no difference with a client who has back pain. Regular exercise* is a huge factor for the prevention of back pain, therefore we work with exercise and Pilates instructors.
Our process is firstly to observe, then test mobility, give therapy and re-test. The aim is to develop a programme of therapy and exercise to establish mobility, homeostasis (rebalance the body) and strengthen to help the body repair itself or manage structural weaknesses in the body.
